Reading University wins international award

11 December 2009
A commercial project conducted at the University of Reading has won an international award for its work to improve people's health.

The Berkshire-based higher education institution's Department of Food and Nutritional Sciences has received the 2009 European Food and Beverage New Product Innovation Award for its introduction of a new form of prebiotics to the market.

The product, which was created in partnership with the private sector firm Prebiotics Clasado, strengthens people's immune systems and prevents the development of 'bad' bacteria growing.

Glenn Gibson, Professor of Food Microbial Sciences at the University of Reading, explained that the initial concept of the project has been fully realised.

He said: "Our collaboration with Clasado has been very successful and we are delighted that the product has been so well-received."

The University of Reading is highly regarded domestically and internationally for the quality of its research, particularly in the fields of environmental, physical and life sciences; arts and humanities, social sciences and business.ADNFCR-1584-ID-19509353-ADNFCR
